Per Township ordinance, on or before January 1 of each year (or the third year if applying for a 3-year license), the owner of any dog six months or older must apply for a Township issued dog license. Each application must be accompanied by valid proof of rabies vaccination using a vaccine licensed by the United States Department of Agriculture and signed by an accredited veterinarian.

Anyone who becomes the owner of a dog six months or older after January 1 must apply for a license within 30 days. Licenses issued for one dog cannot be transferred to another dog.

In compliance with Township ordinance:

  • Up to 3 pets are allowed per residence on lots up to 2 acres.
  • On lots greater than 2 acres, a maximum of 5 pets is permitted.

License Costs:

  • New Dog (first-time license): $5.00
  • Early Renewal (Oct. 1 – Dec. 31): $5.00
  • Renewal: $7.00
  • 3-Year License: $15.00
    - To qualify, your dog must be in the first year of a 3-year rabies vaccination.
  • Replacement Tag: $2.00
  • Mailing Cost: $3.00 (mail-in applications only – to mail the tag back to you)

How to Apply:

In Person: Bring your completed Dog License Application and current rabies certificate (signed by an accredited veterinarian) along with payment (cash, check, or credit card - fees apply) to the front desk at Township Hall. Make checks payable to: Northville Township

By Mail: Send a completed application, a copy of the rabies certificate, and a check for the license fee plus return postage to:

You will receive your new license and dog tag in two to three weeks.
