Home MenuDetention Ponds
Detention ponds play a vital role in our community’s stormwater management infrastructure. These systems are essential for collecting and detaining stormwater runoff, protecting local creeks, reducing downstream flooding and preserving both private and public property.
As the owner, you are responsible for the inspection and maintenance of detention ponds located on your property, as outlined in the Wayne County Stormwater Control Ordinance (Ordinance No. 2021-526a). To support compliance, Northville Township has completed a complimentary inspection of every detention pond within the Township.
A summary of findings with any specific deficiencies can be viewed by going to the interactive map, clicking on the pond and scrolling down to view the report.
To address the identified deficiencies, you may:
- Hire a qualified contractor to perform the required work.
- Complete the work yourself in accordance with all applicable standards and permits
While Northville Township cannot formally recommend contractors, a list of local companies experienced in detention pond maintenance is provided for your convenience.
