Our Community

We protect and serve a vibrant, active community of 31,758 residents located in western Wayne County. What was once a quaint farming region, now is a thriving, charming residential and business community. We are ranked No. 22 on a list of the top 50 best towns in the entire Midwest. We are a special place, complete with solid finances. We are one of 20 communities in the state to receive a AAA bond rating. Home to some of the world’s leading automotive research and development firms, we have an extensive network of pathways, wooded areas and parks. It’s a great place to work.

How we connect with community members and the resources we provide:

The Northville Township Police Department (NTPD) participates in a variety of programs and activities that develop and maintain sound relationships with its community members.

  • Co-Response Services: In 2021, the NTPD implemented a full-time social worker from Hegira Health to assist officers with crisis calls and response. The program provides residents with mental health resources, follow-ups and assist with developing plans for a  positive outcome. The program assists individuals in getting treatment and support vs. incarceration.
  • Partners in Your Safety (PIYS): PIYS is a crime prevention partnership. Law enforcement and residents work together to promote problem solving and create safer neighborhoods. PIYS will empower individual neighborhoods with the resources and tools necessary to succeed in creating a safer community. The vehicle to achieve this is through education. Participating neighborhoods will have the opportunity to achieve accreditation status upon completion of a series of program requirements. The involvement of individuals residing in each neighborhood is vital to the success of this program. As residents become more involved, they will become aware of incidents and issues occurring in their neighborhoods. In turn, they will be able to move in a direction of crime reduction and prevention with the guidance and assistance of the NTPD.
  • Hope for the Holidays: This program provides families in need with financial support, holidays gifts for children and the basic necessities needed for their respective household during the month of December.
  • Crafting with a Cop: This after-school program provides a safe environment for elementary grade students to create crafts with officers, while learning about safety and law enforcement. The program incorporates anti-bullying presentations and focuses on teaching students to respect each other, but more importantly themselves.
  • Coffee with a Cop: This program provides residents with safety presentations at a variety of locations. Officers will informally converse with residents, while enjoying a cup of coffee. The program develops positive relationships with community members, while reducing crime with awareness.
  • Action for Autism: This program began in 2021, outfitting each department patrol vehicle for calming bags for autistics individuals. The agency provides yearly training for officers on how to appropriately interact with citizens who have special needs. The program was adopted by multiple agencies throughout the state of Michigan.
  • New Hope Grief Camp: The agency participates yearly in the New Hope Grief Camp, a two-day event created to assist young children in overcoming their grief from the death of a loved one. Each camp attendee is between the age of 5-17 and has suffered a traumatic loss within their immediate family. Officers are assigned as counselors and assist with camp activities such as crafts, scavenger hunts and obstacle courses.

The NTPD also participates in school events, parades, community picnics, home owners meetings, PTA meetings, and provides additional services to businesses and residents such as security surveys and house-checks for those on vacation.
