MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY

I am honored and privileged to serve as Director of Public Safety for the Northville Township Community and the dedicated men and women of the Department of Public Safety. We are committed to sustaining strategic consistency and reinvention recognizing that today’s problems cannot be solved with yesterday’s solutions.

Northville Township has embraced a safety services model of a nominally consolidated department of public safety. For us nominal consolidation means one central call taking and dispatching center, centralized records and administration. Through this model we are positioned to provide exceptional safety services in a cost efficient manner.

Focusing on safety in the community, our team is dedicated to continuous improvement. In 2018 Fire Services significantly improved our ISO rating through an improved Public Protection Classification placing our department into the top 1% in the State of Michigan. Our paramedics through their Advanced Life Support (ALS) training lead the state in cardiac care survival rate. Our dispatchers, understanding the necessity for rapid responses on emergency calls are answering all phone calls within the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) guidelines and provide pre-arrival instruction until police or fire personnel arrive on scene. Our police department was the first agency in the State to apply for Accreditation through the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police receiving Accredited status in February of 2018. Our Detective Bureau in partnership with the Michigan State Police provides computer forensic exam services to Northville Township Police Department as well as other Law Enforcement Agencies in Western Wayne County.

We encourage our residents to sign up for the Northville Township App and Twitter fee for quick notifications on emergencies in the community. Through community partnerships our Community Service Officer has the capability to educate our citizen’s on current events occurring in law enforcement and crime prevention measures to take; an engaged community is a safe community.

Residents are also encouraged to (sign up or view) CrimeView Dashboard. This communication tool affords residents near real time information regarding crime in the community.

Our residents expect and deserve the best public safety services. With this in mind, we will continue “working for a safer community” by ensuring the best practice standards are met while achieving our Department’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

We welcome any questions, comments or concerns you may have.

We value your feedback on our performance.
