Records Bureau

Police Reports generally take three working days to reach the Records Bureau and to become available to the public. There is a charge for copies of reports, so we encourage you to have your insurance company call and make the request for the report. Fees are as follows:

Police Reports

  • All Police Reports: $4.00 for the first page
  • Additional Pages: $1.00 each
  • Accident Reports: $5.00

Police Clearance Letters

Clearance Letters are provided free of charge to residents of Northville Township. Clearance letters for employment are typically completed at the time of request during regular business hours. Clearance letters for adoptive parents must be signed by the Director of Public Safety or his designee and notarized. Typically there are two notaries available to assist with processing such requests. Please allow three days to process Clearance letters for adoptive parents.

Handgun Purchase Information

Qualified Northville Township residents under authority of (MCL 28.422) who wish to purchase handguns may obtain a Michigan State Police Application and License to Purchase Pistol at the Northville Township Records Bureau. The Records Bureau is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Please call in advance to set up an appointment.

The license is void after 30 days. Select your firearm from an authorized firearm dealer and verify that it is in stock prior to obtaining the permit. After purchasing a handgun, the license must be returned to the department within 10 days following the date of purchase. It is no longer necessary to bring the firearm into the police station. Only bring in the license to purchase (msp copy) in order to complete the registration process.
