Handgun Purchase Information
Qualified Northville Township residents under authority of (MCL
28.422) who wish to purchase handguns may obtain a Michigan State
Police Application and License to Purchase Pistol at the Northville
Township Police Department Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00
PM. Call the Detective Bureau to set up an appointment.
The license is void after 10 days. Select your firearm from an
authorized dealer and verify it is in stock prior to obtaining the
permit. After purchasing a handgun, the license must be returned to
the department within 10 days following the purchase of the handgun.
The purchaser shall then present the handgun for safety inspection. At
that time a Michigan State Police Safety Inspection Certificate will
be issued, and the handgun will be registered with the Michigan State
Police.
Important: A person who presents a handgun for a safety inspection
shall ensure that the handgun is unloaded and that it is equipped with
a trigger lock or other disabling mechanism or encased when the pistol
is presented for inspection.
